BP Young Carers Celebrate Valentine’s Day with Creativity and Kindness
This week, our BP Young Carers came together to celebrate Valentine’s Day in the sweetest way possible! The group spent time getting creative by designing and making beautiful handmade cards for their loved ones. From heartfelt messages to colourful decorations, each card was thoughtfully created and filled with appreciation and care. To make the celebration even more special, everyone enjoyed decorating delicious cupcakes. With plenty of icing, sprinkles, and creativity on display, the results looked almost too good to eat (almost!). It was a wonderful session filled with laughter, creativity, and the chance to reflect on the importance of showing love and gratitude to the people who mean the most to us. We are so proud of our young carers and the kindness they continue to show every day. 💗 For more information on our Young Carers provision, please see the page under wellbeing and family support above! In May, the children in Year 4 will sit their Multiplication Tables Check. In the build up to this, we would encourage families to maximise the time that their children are spending on Times Tables Rockstars using the 'soundcheck' function - this mimics the exact format of the test the children will sit, including the selection of questions they face and the same timings. There are also other versions available here Times tables games - Learn them all here! A reminder that there are no staff run clubs this week due to parents' evenings. Clubs will resume after half-term, the week commencing 23rd February and then run in the weeks commencing 2nd March, 9th March and the 16th March. Please check directly with externally run clubs regarding their operational dates as they may differ.
Parent's evenings are 4-7 pm on Tuesday and Thursday. Sadly, due to illness, appointments for RA have been postponed and we will be in touch once these have been rescheduled. Next week is 'Survival week' at Swimming for Year 4
No sharks in the pool thankfully but your children will need to being pyjamas or other light and long sleeved clothes to wear over their normal swimming kit in the pool. As you will all be aware, we take our sports very seriously at Buckingham Park. See a little summary of performances and achievements this year:
KS2 Cross-Country at Turnfurlong Junior School In the autumn term, many of our Key Stage Two runners competed in the long distance race at Turnfurlong Junior School. There were many stand-out runs from this event. Most notably, our Year 3 girls achieved silver medals, with four of our girls finishing in the top 20 runners out of 70+ competitors. Girls Handball Tournament In the autumn term, our BP girls performed brilliantly on their handball debut, finishing 4th in a tournament. Year 5/6 Boys Football In our most recent football fixture, our boys team put on a wonderful display, beating Haydon Abbey 6-2. Year 5/6 Basketball Team This week, in a tournament, Buckingham Park achieved a bronze medal as they dazzled with their basketball skills. Year 5/6 Swimming This week, we took eight of our talented BP swimmers to Stoke Mandeville Stadium to compete in the annual Swimming Gala. Our BP swimmers enjoyed success in their relay races and coming 1st, 2nd and 3rd place in a lot of the races they did. The behaviour also from our 8 swimmers was fantastic. They worked as a team, cheered each other on and showed excellent sporting behaviour towards their peers. Updates for Girls football and upcoming gymnastics meets to follow! What a day!
On the day of the launch of his new book, The Last Wolf, we were thrilled to host the amazing Rob Biddulph! Rob is one of the countries best selling children's authors, world record holder for his 'Draw with Rob' YouTube channel and ambassador for 2026 - The Year of Reading. The children were thrilled to meet him, hear about his new book and most excitingly, take part in a live 'Draw with Rob' - each child in KS2 drawing and coming home with a picture of his random drawing of the day - an owl in a scarf. Don't forget to check out his YouTube channel and get creative here. Rob's infectious nature, passion for drawing and reading was enjoyed by all and his musical retelling of his book 'I follow the fox' was fantastic and had a few of the staff in tears, if not the children... I need to thank 'Our Bookshop', Tring, for working with us for all of these visits and enrichment opportunities which are so important. I also need to thank you as parents - today we sold nearly 80 books and it is this kind of commitment from our families which continues to support our link with the bookshop and our ability to keep attracting the best. I am not working on commission, but check out Rob's book 'The Blue-footed Booby' - one of mine, and my children's favourites! Thanks Rob! On Thursday 5th February our Netball team played a match against AVA Primary. Due to the miserable weather we played in AVA secondary school's sports hall, which is a lot bigger than our netball court! It was a very close game, with a loss of 5-4, but the team played fantastically and thoroughly enjoyed themselves! We look forward to our next match against St Mary's next term.

Over the last few years we have had a number of pupils grow, cut and donate their hair to the Little Princess Trust.
My own daughter is actually growing hers to try and donate herself in future - she has some way to go though! The Little Princes Trust is the most wonderful charity - accepting donations of hair of over a certain length to produce real hair wigs for children suffering from hair loss for any reason. Hayley in Year 6 is just about to do just that. She has been growing her hair for the last two years now and on Saturday 7th March will have 12 inches chopped to donate. This is a fantastic gesture and something we are really proud of. Hayley is hoping to raise £300 and I think we all might be able to help her to do much more! If any parents, or members of the community would like to donate to her just giving page, see link below: https://www.justgiving.com/page/hayleye?utm_medium=FR&utm_source=CL Dan |
