Rhyme Challenge 2013!

Picture
Our Nursery is taking part in The Rhyme Challenge, which is great fun and will involve your child learning rhymes with their friends and teachers and sharing them with all the family at home.

Your child will be bringing rhyme sheets home, making it fun and easy to join in with The Rhyme Challenge. Don’t worry if you don’t know, or haven’t heard the rhymes in a long time, we will all be learning together and supporting each other.

The great thing about rhymes is that you can sing or say them anywhere; you don’t need any musical equipment, or to be in tune! Just have fun together.

Rhymes help children feel confident with words and will also help them begin to learn to read, so we hope you will have fun helping your child with The Rhyme Challenge.

With the whole family taking part in The Rhyme Challenge, it can help set your child up for future learning and it does not have to be boring! Sharing rhymes every day can help your child grow and learn in so many ways and you will be having so much fun, you won’t even realise that your child is learning until you may begin to notice that they are:

·         Singing songs around the home or at play
·         Becoming more talkative
·         Becoming more confident and using new words they have learnt

Don’t forget to involve all the family; grandparents, siblings and other family members can all join in the fun by learning rhymes together.

‘Learning rhymes together, especially when all the family get involved, helps children to feel confident with words and to become good listeners. It will also help them as they begin to learn to read.’
Julia Donaldson, Waterstones Children’s Laureate 2012-13
