Young carers are children and young people who care for someone in their own home who is ill, has a physical or mental disability, or drug or alcohol dependency.
The cared for person may be a parent, sibling or another relative living in the same household. The child or young person does not necessarily have to be providing ‘hands on’ care to be recognised as a young carer. Even if there are services in place and other members of the family helping with the care, the emotional impact and restrictions due to illness or disability can still have an enormous effect on the young carer.
To minimise additional stress and anxiety for these children please ensure that your Young Carers are given:
A calm space to sit in the class room
A friend or positive learning buddy to sit next to
The ability to talk to an adult if they need
Young Carers at Buckingham Park are led by Mrs Forsdyke, Miss Read and Mrs Dean. We also have support from the team at Young Carers Bucks.
If you feel that your child requires this support, please contact your child's class teacher.
