Burying history at Buckingham Lodge...

28/2/2015

Thank you to everyone who entered our Time Capsule competition.

The winners were invited to Buckingham Lodge on Friday 27th February to see the Time Capsule being buried and to take a look at the new care home, our newest community neighbours.

Alison Purkiss,  Customer Relations Manager for Anchor, has been in contact with the school to say, "It was a great morning and the kids were all fabulous and extremely well behaved and polite – an absolute credit to the school."

We were so impressed with all the entries that they were all placed in the Time-Capsule, to be discovered in many decades to come!

Pilgrims Course

Pilgrim is a major new teaching and discipleship resource from the Church of England. It aims to help every local church create a place where people can explore the Christian faith together and see how it can be lived out each day.

Pilgrim takes a different approach to other Christian programmes. It approaches the great issues of faith not through persuasion, but participation in a pattern of contemplation and discussion with a group of fellow travellers.

Pilgrim is comprised of two stages: the Follow stage for those very new to faith, and the Grow stage for those who want to go further. Each stage contains four short six-session courses which focus on a major theme of Christian life.

There are two courses starting soon in Aylesbury.  The first is the 'Follow' stage  for those very new to faith, and the second is the 'Grow' stage for those who want to go further. Each stage contains four short six-session courses which focus on a major theme of Christian life.

The 'Follow' stage will be held on Wednesday evenings at 'The Works' on Market Square in Aylesbury.

Revd Mark is leading the 'Grow' stage at Buckingham Park School on Monday evenings starting on Monday 2nd March (7pm - 9pm).

If you are interested in joining either course, or if you would like further information, please contact Revd Mark:

Bag2School Collection - Raise funds for the school - 11th March

We are pleased to announce that the school has organised a textile collection with Bag2School in order to raise funds for the PTA.

Bag2School are the UK’s leading textile recycler and fundraiser working with schools and since its inception in 2001 they have now paid out over £20 million.

As well as raising vitally needed funds for our school, it also helps the environment by helping to divert unwanted textiles away from landfill. A recent DEFRA report has shown that textile collection schemes are helping to reduce the volume of textiles discarded as municipal solid waste. However it is a fact that as a nation we still send 1,081,000 tonnes of textiles to landfill every year.

By getting involved in our Bag2School collection, you have an opportunity to sort through your cupboards and wardrobes and donate unwanted textiles in the bag provided – this can include adults’ and children’s clothes, shoes (tied together please), hats, belts, handbags and soft toys. Please note bedding, curtains, and household linen cannot be accepted (refer to www.bag2school.com for details). In addition to raising much needed funds it will also raise awareness amongst the children of the benefits of recycling and reuse.

If you fill the donation bag and still have more then you can use any other bag to donate your items and don’t forget to ask grandparents, friends and neighbours to have a sort out as well!

Bag2School will be collecting from our school on 11th March. Please bring your bag (or bags!) to school on that day and help us have a really good collection.

Many thanks indeed for helping us with this unique fundraising opportunity.

Bag2School accept the following ‘good quality’ items for RE-USE:

  • Men’s, Ladies and Children’s clothing
  • Paired shoes (tied together or elastic band around)
  • Handbags
  • Hats
  • Bags
  • Scarves and ties
  • Jewellery
  • Lingerie
  • Belts
  • Soft toys

Bag2School do not accept:

  • Duvets, bedding, blankets and household linen
  • Pillows and cushions
  • Carpets, rugs and mats (including bath, shower and toilet mats)
  • Curtains
  • Towels
  • Soiled, painted, ripped  or wet clothing*
  • School uniforms
  • Corporate clothing and workwear
  • Textile off cuts, yarns or threaded material

Librarian Training for Parents

3/2/2015

We have a number of parents who have responded to our request for volunteer librarians.  We need some help keeping the library in top shape, getting new books on the system, helping children and getting books checked in and checked out.

We are holding a training event on Thursday 12th February from 1.30 - 3.00pm.  Once you have been trained, you will be able to volunteer as a librarian as much, or as little as you like.

If you would like to join in the training event, simply send an email to office@buckinghampark.bucks.sch.uk

We will ask all our regular library volunteers to have an enhanced DBS check (formerly called CRB) in keeping with the school's safeguarding procedures.  If you come along to the training event, please bring three forms of ID including at least one photographic (drivers licence or passport) and at least one with your current address (such as a recent utility bill or this year's council tax statement) - but three in total.
