The celebration of Chinese New Year starts at the end of this week. The celebration last for two weeks. During this time, houses are decorated with coloured lanterns, brightly coloured banners and arrangements of flowers. Fireworks, a Chinese invention, are let off on the Chinese New Year’s Eve. The dragon’s dance, performed to the accompaniment of drums and gongs, and lantern parades are also features of the celebration of the new year. We would like to take this opportunity to wish a happy new year to all those in our school community who are celebrating.

We are delighted to tell you that a number of staff have volunteered to lead an after school club for the children. A list of the clubs being offered can be found overleaf. All clubs have a limit on the numbers of children that we can safely supervise so we may have to operate a ‘rota’ if we cannot accommodate all the children at the same time. Clubs will continue regardless of weather conditions. In the case of very poor weather, outdoor clubs will relocate to an indoor space. Clubs are available for all children from Reception to Year 6. The clubs will start week commencing 16th January 2017 and will run up to half term (4 weeks). Clubs will restart week commencing 27th February and run for another 4 weeks (finishing week commencing 20th March 2017). Please book a place by using the online form: PLEASE BOOK BY 9AM on FRIDAY 13 JANUARY. Please assume your child has a place unless you are notified otherwise.
I am grateful to all those members of staff who have volunteered to do this – this is a tremendous commitment and is done purely to give the children additional opportunities. Please remember to thank them for giving up their time in this way. Please note that the following ‘paid for’ clubs are operating this term and should be booked directly with the provider (please enquire in the school office for further details). These clubs will also have their own schedule of dates: - Hercules (Years 1 – 6) - KaSo Ballet (Years 1 – 3) Our after-school ballet club starts on Monday 9 January. Children will have the opportunity to work towards an external exam in Pre-Primary Ballet with The British Association of Teachers of Dance, (BATD). Pupils do not have to take the exam, of course, and the Kaso teachers will work together with you to decide if it is right for your child in two terms’ time, which is the minimum time it takes to prepare for such an exam. Sessions of Dance Blitz club will therefore made up of syllabus work, with the usual addition of fun dance games and action songs. We would like to invite the children who already attend to please sign up again, BUT we welcome new children to get involved with Ballet club too: It is open to children from Year 1 to Year 3 and will be a block of 5 sessions from Monday 9th January to Monday 6th February inclusive. Please see the letter below for further information.
