We are setting our children, staff and families a challenge for the 23 school days in March, in recognition of Lent. Lent is the 40 day period before Easter, starting on Ash Wednesday (the day after Shrove Tuesday – this week). 23 days is a generosity challenge which invites people to do Lent a bit differently. During the 23 school days in March we will invite children, families and staff to take part in twenty simple acts of generosity which will challenge them to ‘do Lent generously’ in 2017. Lent marks a pivotal point in the history of the church, when Jesus prepared to give himself up as a sacrifice. Traditionally we mark Lent by giving something up, but what if it could be more than that? What if Lent was a preparation for a lifetime of big-heartedness? Small acts of generosity have the power to make a big change to our school and community. The idea is simple – during the period of Lent, as a whole school, we’ll give something back, not give something up. Each class has a set of Challenge Cards. Each school day, beginning on Wednesday, every class picks a Challenge Card at random and this becomes their challenge for that day. Each task is a small act of generosity or kindness. You can join in at home with the attached wall chart.
It was a great end to the half term for the Buckingham Park football team, playing a league game on a Friday.
On Friday 10 February we hosted the team from North Marston School. Following a closely matched first half, with some impressive defending, the teams turned round 0-0 at the interval. In the third quarter, Buckingham Park gained the lead with a well-worked goal. Cameron worked his way out on the right, drawing the defence, and then passed across the goal for Aiden, who maintained his composure to slot the ball into the back of the net. North Marston battled hard to get back in the game but Buckingham Park were able to hold on for another win. Well done to all the team! Our league record is now: Played 3, Won 2, Drawn 1, Lost 0. 5 week course (Thursdays) Starting Thursday 23 February 1.30pm - 3.00pm What is The Parenting Children Course?
