Get Ready for Buckingham Park’s Public Speaking Competition!
I am incredibly excited to announce that we are holding the Public Speaking Competition again. Public Speaking Competition! Last year, we heard so many amazing talks from children across Key Stage 2 and can’t wait to hear more again this year. Have you ever talked about your favourite hobby and could not stop? Do you love explaining how things work, sharing your passions, or making people laugh with a story or joke? Then this is your moment to shine! So, what is public speaking? It simply means standing up and speaking in front of an audience, in our case, your classmates. You choose a topic you know lots about – it could be football, animals, baking, gaming, history, dance, or even your pet hamster! You will write a short speech, practise it, and present it to your class. Originality is important here – something that people might not know about you, or that makes you, you! Here’s how it works: Class Heats: These will start from 2nd July, so get preparing! From this we will choose 4 children to represent each year group in the Semi-Finals. Semi-Finals: The 4 chosen speakers from each year group will perform in front of their phase (Y3/4 or Y5/6) on Thursday 9th July (Y3/4) or Friday 10th July (Y5/6). From this we will choose 2 children to represent each year group in the Finals. The Grand Final: The 2 chosen finalists from the Semi-Finals from each year group will then be heard on the morning of Wednesday 16th July, with a special audience… your parents and a selected panel of judges. It will be the judges’ unenviable task to choose the Winner, Runner-Up, and a Highly Commended Speaker. Everyone in Key Stage 2 will be having a go – this is all about being brave, sharing what you know. Part of the English Curriculum is Public Speaking so it fulfils this objective too. Whilst some will have confidence to speak in front of others, we are aware some would prefer to do this with a select few or even on their own with their class teacher. You will be surprised how quickly you will build confidence, learn something new, and inspire your friends too! So… start thinking, planning and practising – we cannot wait to hear what you have to say! Calling all Year 6 Parents/Carers 📣

We are pleased to announce another author; on Tuesday 9th June, we host Beatrice Simpkiss to Buckingham Park. She will lead a vibrant workshop to our children inspired by her debut picture book Ziggy the Caterpillar's Zigzag Adventure. The workshop will be for Reception and Years 1, 2 and 3 - as we have had lots of authors for the older year groups - although of course anybody can order the book! This vibrant, fun story follows Ziggy—a lovable caterpillar who just can’t sit still—on a whirlwind journey of self-discovery. The ADHD positive debut celebrates mindfulness and the beauty of moving through the world differently. The session will show the use of dynamic art to empower every chid to embrace their own zigzagging path. She will be signing books for the children at the event. IMPORTANT – To ensure your child has their own signed personal copy please click the link below… https://www.ourbookshoptring.co.uk/product/ziggy-the-caterpillars-zigzag-adventure-a-story-about-self-discovery/ The signed books will be handed out on the day. This will be very exciting for everyone. IMPORTANT MESSAGE FROM BEN AT OUR BOOKSHOP - Please include the students name and class so the books can be labelled up for the event. Postage is not required; we will deliver all the books on the day. Parents and Carers!
