Buckingham Park School was visited by World Record Breaker and South Pole Explorer Lewis Clarke. When Lewis was 16 years old her became the youngest person ever to trek to the South Pole, cross-skiing over 702 miles for 50 days. Lewis - now 20 years old and studying History at an American University - came to visit the school in response to letters written to him by Year 5 children. Last term, Year 5 wrote letters to inspiring world record breakers, and Lewis was so touched by the letters he received, he agreed to visit us. Lewis retold his adventures to the whole school during worship time, and asked the children "What's your South Pole?". The dream that you think is achievable, but with support and determination - could come true. Lewis then went onto give a more in depth question and answer session with Year 5, where the children excelled with their speaking and listening skills, and were also able to see and touch some of the equipment (skis, boots, and gloves). We want to give a huge thank you to Lewis Clarke for giving up his time to speak to our children and inspire all of us to think "What's your South Pole?"
